What is Emergency First Aid at Work?

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a one-day qualification regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It is designed for appointed persons in low-risk workplaces who need to provide immediate first aid response in an emergency.

The course covers the core skills required to manage a first aid emergency — including CPR, AED use, choking, bleeding, and unconsciousness — and meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Who is this course for?

EFAW is suitable for a wide range of workplaces and roles. Typical delegates include:

  • Appointed persons in offices, retail, and small businesses
  • Staff in low-risk environments requiring HSE-compliant first aid cover
